Carpal tunnel syndrome causes pain, numbness, muscle weakness and tingling in the fingers or hands, particularly the thumb, index, middle, or ring fingers.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by repetitive finger and hand use (especially with improper positioning). A nerve called the median nerve becomes compressed as it passes through the carpal tunnel, the narrow passageway of bones and ligaments on the underside of the wrist.
Aggravating factors that can cause carpal tunnel syndrome are conditions such as obesity, pregnancy, hypothyroidism, arthritis, and diabetes
What will the Acupuncture treatment be like?
For carpal tunnel syndrome, the acupuncture points used are usually on the wrist, arm, thumb, and hands, other parts of the body such as the upper back, neck, and leg may also be used.

How many Acupuncture treatments?
How many acupuncture treatments you need will depend on a number of factors: how long I have had the symptoms, the intensity of the symptoms, how much your arms and hands can be rested, and your overall health.
It is recommended that you expect to have six treatments with not more than about a week apart. Coming more than once a week at the beginning will probably speed up the results for you. By the time you reach treatment six you should be really clear that you are getting real improvement. At that stage appointments can begin to be spread out. You might come fortnightly for a while or three weekly/monthly while the condition is fully resolving.
Why else to choose Acupuncture? :
- Very Low risk: Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a trained professional.
- Naturally calming: Many people feel deeply relaxed during or after treatment (often falling asleep during treatment).
- Drug-free: It helps the body heal without medication or potentially worrying side effects.
- Minimal discomfort: Needles are hair-thin and usually painless.
- Mild effects only: Rare side effects include slight redness or brief bruising.
