Causes of sinusitis
The sinuses are hollow spaces in the bones around the eyes and nose that affect voice quality. There are five pairs, all connected to each other and the nasal passages. Sinusitis occurs when one or more sinuses become inflamed, usually from a viral infection.
It’s most common in adults and rare in children under five. Those with nasal abnormalities, hay fever, or who smoke are more likely to develop it.
Sinusitis can be acute or chronic.

What are the symptoms of acute sinusitis?
- Headache
- Pain in the forehead or face, particularly when coughing, sneezing or bending over
- Coloured mucus or phlegm
- Congested or obstructed nasal passage ways
- High temperature
- Loss of taste and smell
What are the symptoms of chronic sinusitis?
Symptoms are similar to those of acute sinusitis but less severe. The symptoms can come and go or may always be there.
What will the Acupuncture treatment be like?
The acupuncturists’ treatment is usually aimed at clearing phlegm and ‘heat’ (inflammation) and treating the pain. Staying away from smoky environments and strengthening the immune system reduces the risk of infection and can help to prevent sinusitis,
Why else to choose Acupuncture? :
- Very Low risk: Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a trained professional.
- Naturally calming: Many people feel deeply relaxed during or after treatment (often falling asleep during treatment).
- Drug-free: It helps the body heal without medication or potentially worrying side effects.
- Minimal discomfort: Needles are hair-thin and usually painless.
- Mild effects only: Rare side effects include slight redness or brief bruising.
